ABC NEWS: A letter sent from the Myanmar embassy orders students to declare they do not support the pro-democracy movement
According to ABC News, Myanmar’s embassy in Canberra sent letters to Myanmar students in Australia, demanding they pledge loyalty to the military junta.
It threatens they may be “subject to punishment” if they don’t declare loyalty to the Myanmar government.
In reality, they fear students in Australia will have their voices heard as they have too much freedom of speech.
And here is what the military junta fears the most…
They fear many Myanmar students in Australia could get permanent residence in the country…
This could have drastic consequences for the junta.
They know that if Myanmar nationals get permanent residency in Australia they can no longer control these individuals.
As Australian permanent residents, Myanmar students will have freedom to say whatever they want without fearing for their lives.
In the eyes of Military commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing, a Myanmar student with a permanent residency in Australia is 10 times more powerful than thousands of people fighting on the streets of Yangon or Mandalay…

Myanmar students getting PR in Australia could have a real impact in freeing Aung San Suu Kyi.
That’s why many Myanmar students are applying for a protection visa in Australia right now.
They want to free Aung San Suu Kyi.
Most importantly, they want to restore democracy in Myanmar.
But it’s not easy for a Myanmar student to get a protection visa in Australia…
SBS published that “more than 90 per cent of onshore protection visa cases are refused”.
So what happens if your protection visa application gets refused.
If your application gets refused, your chances of staying in Australia will be very slim.
You will have to appeal.
You may have to go to court.
Worse still, you may have to go back to Myanmar while facing real danger…
REASONS THAT COULD LEAD THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE TO REFUSE YOUR PROTECTION VISA APPLICATION?
Oftentimes, Myanmar applicants don’t have a good command of the English language.
Or they don’t have the time and resources to properly write their claims for protection.
There are ambiguities, contradictions and even grammar mistakes in their claims.
What they are trying to say can be easily misinterpreted by the Immigration Office…
Worse still, they are not able to provide documents and evidence to support their claims.
This could lead to your application being refused.
Anything that could spark doubt in the mind of the Immigration Department could jeopardise your protection visa application.
