Other Australian Partner Visa Fees
Below are some extra costs you may expect during your partner visa application.
Health Examination Costs
Partner visa applicants from some countries are required to undertake a health assessment, If they haven’t completed a health assessment in the 12 months prior to applying for a partner visa.
Fees for health assessments will depend on which examinations are required, as well as the applicant’s age and country of origin.
In Australia, Bupa Visa Medical Services operates medical centres around Australia on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.
Bupa’s fees start from $227.10 for a medical examination at centres in major cities in Australia. That’s something to be considered when you are calculating your total Australian partner visa fee.
Biometrics Costs
Visa applicants from some countries may also be required to undertake a biometrics collection by the Department of Home Affairs.
Biometrics are collected through a quick and easy process that captures a photograph of your face and a 10-digit electronic fingerprint.
When you lodge your application online, you will be sent a request to provide personal identifiers (biometrics) via email. You should make an appointment to attend an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in person to provide your biometrics. Take a copy of that email and your passport to the appointment.
Biometrics collection fees differ in each country. For example, if you are applying for an offshore partner visa from Cambodia, the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in Phnom Penh charges $34 USD per person for a biometrics collection. Another expense to be added up to the total amount of your Australian partner visa fee.
Police Certificate Costs
If you and your partner (and any additional applicant over the age of 18) have spent more than 12 months in any country since the age of 16, you will need to obtain a police certificate from each of those countries as part of the partner visa application.
The costs to apply for a police certificate will vary depending on the country.
In Australia, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) charges a fee of $42 AUD to issue a national police certificate for the purposes of immigration.
Translation of Document Costs
Any document to be submitted as part of your partner visa application which is not in English will need to be translated into English. And that will add up to the Australian partner visa fee.
When documents are translated in Australia, they must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
If the documents are translated overseas they don’t need to be accredited. However, it must include in English the full name of the translator, their address, phone number, and qualifications and experience they have in the language they are translating.
Usually translation fees are based on the number of words or pages on the document, as well as the location of the translator.
For example, Opal Translation, a NAATI certified translator in Australia may charge around $69 AUD for a Marriage Certificate Translation and $350 AUD for a Marriage Certificate Translation with Affidavit.
